Why not make some homemade lo mai gai? Yet another dim sum favourite that you can make at home. If you wanna go vegetarian or vegan, just omit the chicken.

Ingredients

  • Ingredients A
  • 2 tablespoon light soy sauce

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper

  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce

  • 1/2 teaspoon five-spice powder

  • 1 tablespoon ginger (very finely chopped)

  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

  • Other
  • 4 boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into cubes

  • 2 cups sticky rice (sweet rice), soaked overnight

  • 1 tablespoons dark soy sauce

  • Oil

  • 1 cups shitake mushrooms, soaked overnight

  • 1 cups scallion, chopped

  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt

Directions

  • Toss chicken with ingredients A and leave to marinate for at least 30 mins.
  • Drain the glutinous rice and mix with 2 tbsp of dark soy sauce.
  • In a wok sauter mushrooms till tender. Set aside. Hen brown the chicken pieces and add in all other ingredients.
  • Wrap mixture in lotus leaves or put mixture into heat proof bowls. Steam on medium heat for 1 ½ hours.
