Here’s a simple and delicious recipe to make your own traditional mooncakes at home! Perfect with that rich, creamy lotus paste filling and a golden-brown crispy crust.

Mooncake Skin Ingredients:
🍯 ¼ cup golden syrup
🥜 2 tbsp peanut oil
💧 1 tsp lye water
🌾 ¾ cup all-purpose flour

Filling:
🥚 salted duck egg yolks
🪷 Lotus seed paste (most people just buy this premade, if you want to make this from scratch, recipe at abangbrian.com)

For the glaze:
🥚 1 egg yolk
🥛 3 tbsp milk

In honor of Malaysia’s Independence Day, I want

In honor of Malaysia’s Independence Day, I want to share a moment that truly embodies Malaysia’s unwavering hospitality and pride in its people. As I embarked on my journey to preserve Malaysian and Asian food culture through my soon-to-be-launched podcast, The @hungryimmigrant my travels took me to Finland. There, I sought to connect with Malaysians and Asians, and the response I received was nothing short of heartwarming.

The Embassy of Malaysia in Helsinki welcomed me with open arms, fully supporting my mission, even though they probably didn’t know who I was. During the recording (which will be released soon), the acting ambassador went above and beyond, personally gathering prominent Malaysian figures in Helsinki and offering the embassy as our recording space. In that moment, I couldn’t help but smile and think, « Inilah Malaysia kita » (This is the Malaysia I grew up in).

A heartfelt *terima kasih* to the wonderful people at the Malaysian Embassy in Helsinki, especially En. Ariff. I look forward to connecting with Malaysian embassies and high commissions around the world to continue showcasing our rich culture. Because, « Hilangnya makanan, hilangnya budaya, maka hilangnya bangsa. »
