There’s just something so nostalgic and so Malaysian about these buns. One of the first things i will always get when I get to Malaysia.

Ingredients
Ingredient A
2tbspbread flour
2tbspwater
4tbspmilk
Ingredient B
70gsugar
120mlmilk
1tbspyeast
Ingredient C
320gbread flour
1tspsalt

Egg wash
Sambal of choice
Directions
Heat ingredients A till thickened. Set aside.
Mix ingredients B together and set aside.
Sift ingredients C together. Add in ingredients B and egg. Mix well. Add ingredients A which has been cooled down. Mix well.
Once you get a soft dough, continue kneading adding 1 tbsp of butter at a time. Leave to rise for 45 mins with a damp cloth.
Punch down and divide to 9 portions of 56g. Flatten and stuff with ikan bilis sambal. Roll into balls. Place in a greased baking tray. And cover with damp cloth and leave to rise for another 30-45 mins or till double their original size.
Coat with a layer of egg wash. Bake in a preheated oven at 180C for 20-25 mins or till golden brown.
